Three shows, nine sets, and ten hours of local music was celebrated at * ScapeTheInvasion 2016 at the *SCAPE Singapore’s Ground Theatre on Dec 17, 2016.
Japanese music blasted throughout the convention centre as photographers ran around trying to snap pictures of cosplayers dressed as various characters from their favourite animes and mangas. Fans squealed at the sight of their favourite characters and the sound of the favourite music. These are the various activities that usually go on at the annual Anime Festival Asia (AFA). For the eighth year running, AFA was held at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre from 26 November to 28 November 2016.
The words ‘dream’ and ‘angst’ aren’t often paired up, but one would be surprised to see (or hear, rather) how perfectly they go together after listening to the whimsical music of Subsonic Eye, accompanied by cryptic lyrics laced with distress.
Despite making their debut early on this year, mysterious dark noir pop duo TOMGIRL had their self-titled debut album claim the title of Best Album in Apple’s ‘Best of 2016 In Singapore’ list. When it was first released, it even ranked #1 on the iTunes charts. In addition, their lead single ‘Darker Now’ also premiered on Beats 1 Radio and MTV Asia.
Pop-rock band The Summer State has been rubbing shoulders with famous international acts since their infectious ballad, ‘I Do I Don’t’, shot up the charts in 2013. As of today, its music video has over 100,000 views on YouTube. Their recent single, ‘Enough’, is also doing well, with over 10,000 views on YouTube. The quintet consists of vocalist, Bryan, guitarists, Victoria and Shaykh, bassist, Edwin, and drummer, Ritz.
One woman band, bittymacbeth, is already rocking the stage with recognition from established local artistes such as Inch Chua, and featuring Dru Chen and Benjamin Kheng on her debut EP, ‘Beauty For Ashes’.
The newest addition to the Disney franchise, Moana, is already becoming another success for the company, by beating the world renown, Frozen, for drawing a preview record of US$2.6 million, compared to the latter at US$1.2 million.
Although only have been formed just two years ago, Take Two is taking Singapore by storm. The Indie Pop four-member band consists of vocalist, Paddy, guitarist, Peng Sing, bassist, David, and drummer, Jeryl.
Formed in 2011, Disco Hue is one of the many rising Independent artistes/bands in Singapore. The electric pop band consists of four members, Sherlyn who does vocals and synths, Zie who does samples and synths, Billy who does drums and beats, and Rush who does guitar.
