Hands down the movie I had been waiting for the ENTIRE year.

As a religious follower of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I was one of those who counted down the years, months, weeks then finally days for the premiere of the latest instalment to the franchise, Avengers: Age of Ultron. The first trailer alone got me aching for more! However, despite being a devout follower, I was skeptical that this movie would forever be in the shadow of it’s predecessor. As with most sequels, the first one is always better. Would the film be able to live up to the expectations of the first blockbuster that dominated the box office? (And the world)

Well, Joss Whedon (Director of Avengers: Age of Ultron), I’m sorry I ever doubted you.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is centres around the Avengers team – Captain America (played by Chris Evans), Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth), The Hulk (played by Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner), going after Loki’s sceptre for one last hurrah. Through this supposedly final mission, Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man discovers something that would convince him to create Ultron, an artificial intelligence created to protect the world from alien threats. In a turn of events, Ultron turns on the Avengers and seeks to destroy Earth.

The plot might sound like your typical, superhero flick. But boy, was it not. In my opinion, this movie was incredible. In fact, I even felt that it surpassed its predecessor (by just a tiny margin). The action sequences were wonderfully executed, and the digital effects just blew me away; almost flawless. As to be expected by Marvel, I suppose.

The thing I loved most about this movie, however, was seeing the development of the relationship of the Avengers members. I will tell you that there is some internal conflict in this one, some that will even pitch them against each other. (OoOoooOhh) Joss Whedon lived up to his promise that this movie would be more character centric than the first. For all you Hulk and Hawkeye fangirls/fanboys, you’ll be quite pleased with how much screen time these characters got in this film.

Of course, how could Whedon forget about the new characters to join the Avengers cast? This movie saw 4 new characters introduced to the MCU – Pietro Maximoff a.k.a. Quicksilver (played by Aaron Taylor Johnson), Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. Scarlet Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen), our main antagonist Ultron (played by James Spader) and The Vision (played by Paul Bettany). All four characters stood out in their own unique way, and for their debut film, I feel that they did pretty well in leaving their mark.

Despite being a fan of the narcissistic Tony Stark, I have to say that the character that captured me the most in this movie was Scarlet Witch. She was portrayed as such a mysterious character with super cool powers, and I’m excited to see the part she plays in the MCU. What superb acting from Elizabeth Olsen!

With all its twists and turns in storyline that will catch you from behind, the gripping characters that we all know and love, and just the badass-ary of a superhero film, I don’t have to tell you to go catch Avengers: Age of Ultron, cause I believe that you eventually just will. A must watch for all you superhero movie junkies for sure!

Big thank you to Disney for sending Radio Heatwave down to catch the preview of Avengers: Age of Ultron! You made our dreams come true! 🙂
