Anne-Marie in Singapore

If you’ve never heard of Anne-Marie, you’re most definitely missing out. Once I heard Anne-Marie was holding a concert for her debut studio album, Speak Your Mind, I knew that I couldn’t miss it. I’ve been a fan of her since she released Alarm in 2016 and I’ve always been in awe of her vocal prowess. Not only that, I’ve always thought that she sounds better live so I was so excited to catch her in concert. Her concert definitely didn’t disappoint. She donned a very sparkly outfit and sang the first track on her album ‘Cry’. After which, she moved on to songs like ‘Do it Right’, ‘Heavy’ and ‘Perfect’. I particularly loved her performance of ‘Perfect’ as she asked the audience to cheer if they related to any of the lyrics in that song. Lyrics like, “So I eat my body weight in chocolate and ice cream” and “I'll love who I want to love, 'cause this love is gender free,” got very loud cheers from the audience. After her performance of ‘Perfect’, she sang one of her newest songs ‘2002' which is a song she co-wrote with touring partner and long-time friend, Ed Sheeran. She also sang her other songs like ‘Trigger’ and ‘Don’t Leave Me Alone’.

One of my favourites from the night was definitely ‘Bad Girlfriend’. Before Anne-Marie sang, she made a cute comment about how this song is usually the opposite of how she usually writes and how if anyone was at the concert with their boyfriend, they should stand slightly apart if they wanted to dance to this song. She then moved on to ‘Alarm’, which was the first song I ever heard from Anne-Marie back in 2016. I loved how much this song has transformed over the years and it was very nice to hear it in concert. After that, she moved on to one of her more emotional songs, ‘Then’. For this song, she sat on the floor and at the end of it, as she got a little emotional. Though ‘Then’ was a very emotional song, she ended the night with three very upbeat and cheerful songs. I personally danced and screamed her last three songs at the top of my lungs. ‘Ciao Adios’,’Rockabye’ and ‘Friends’ had everyone dancing and singing. For me, after dancing and singing so loud, I can definitely say that this concert was a really great one.In the end, she ended the concert on a high and left the audience wanting more. However, to my disappointment, there wasn’t an encore but for the fans who stayed after the concert, members of Anne-Marie’s band gave out the musical scores to her songs. Honestly, I think Anne-Marie has such a great stage presence and I will be binge watching all her concert videos and blasting her album in my room for the next few weeks.

All in all, I will definitely be catching Anne-Marie in concert again when she comes back to Singapore and maybe I’ll bring some Pandan cake with me. After all, she loves Pandan cake and we love her.
