Cadence reaches new "Heights"

"Heights"

EP

Cadence

Titled "Heights", Cadence’s recently released five-track debut EP clearly represents the collective's desire to grow, mature and achieve greater heights (pun intended), both as individuals and as a band.

Though it is clear from the album that this newcomer is still in the process of figuring out their musical identity, that doesn’t stop them from putting together an interesting selection of tracks filled with raw emotions and heartfelt sentiment. Exploring the theme of pre-flight (and hence the name, heights haha), the album “signifies transition, like a fledgling about to take off for the first time into a world of uncertainty; yet, there is also a readiness and a sense of expectancy for the endless possibilities to come."

After a brief introduction of some catchy instrumentals in the 49-secs track

 "Stratosphere",

the EP opens with "Reignition"

 -

a song that starts off pretty eclectic before winding down into the verse with a rather strong lyrical hook -- “Hey now/ Why’d you let you sceptics paralyse you”. As seen from the blending of the hard-hitting, pit-ready chorus which comes after the reflective, lyrical advice in "Reignition"

, Cadence doesn’t fail to change up and mix the styles of music around to entice followers.

With nifty guitar riffs and melodies to accompany the lead single, the second-track "Come Home"

undoubtedly showcases the band’s flair for writing anthems.

What makes this track even more interesting would be the perfect harmony of the instrumentals and vocals interchangeably with the melody despite the absence of a conventional song structure.

If there’s any one particular track from the album which everyone will love for it’s memorable and catchy tune, it’ll have to be "Zara"

.

This third track is a breakup ballad which draws the attention of younger listeners because of its harmonic resonance and heartfelt sentiments throughout the song. Besides the strong grasp of dynamics within the track, what "Zara" really reveals to us with great depth would be Cadence’s songwriting skills.

Similar to "Reignition"

, the fourth track "Walls"

features elements of emo and garage coming together to produce energy-filled music that will appeal to people who have been growing up listening to such genres. One thing’s for sure, if you liked"Reignition"

, you’ll definitely love "Walls".

Next up would be a short 1.20-sec instrumental titled "Nebula"

featuring the band seemingly effortlessly churining music. These short instrumentals despite being pleasing to the ears, teases the listeners, making them want more. Despite revealing the band’s never ending passion for making music, what these short and catchy instrumentals really shows us is their almost effortless ability to draw people in with their simple yet detailed tunes.

Last but not least, the album closes with a blast of positive energy in "Alive"

. Bursting with energy, this track doesn’t just appeal to those who grew up listening to similar genres in the early 2000s, but also appeals to the younger generation of today. Simply put, this is an upbeat rock anthem for the here and now.
