Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, a thrilling and exciting sci-fi movie tells the tale of Major Valerian (played by Dan Dehaan) and Sergeant Laureline (played by Cara Delevingne) as they race against time to protect Alpha, a vast metropolis and home to species from a thousand planets, from a dark force that threatens it. It is up to them to identify the ominous menace and not only safeguard Alpha, but also the future of the universe.

This movie is based off the graphic novel Valérian and Laureline, and was brought to life by Luc Besson, the director, writer and co-producer of the film.

After watching the movie, I can say I am honestly impressed by the graphics in the movie. The movie is so visually stunning and the effects are just beautiful and left me in awe. From beginning to end, the visual effects were a 10/10 and I give props to the visual effects team for their impeccable work.

Through the two-hour long movie, some parts seemed a bit draggy and unnecessary and confusing at some points. It also seemed a bit disjointed and some scenes could have flowed better.

Overall though, the plot was pretty solid and interesting. The comedic touches in the movie made it really easy to watch and also really added on to the relationship between Valerian and Laureline which was the perfect balance of playfulness and romance.

I think Dane and Cara did a great job of bringing both a comedic and vulnerable aspect to their characters as it gave their characters more depth. Not to mention, their on screen chemistry was really great and is also something to look out for when you watch the movie.

For me though, Rihanna’s scenes were my favourite. She added this new energy when she came onscreen and was just mind-blowingly amazing. Not to mention, her character is also really cute and funny.

The highlights were definitely the visuals and the graphics as well as the light touches of comedy weaved into the movie.Valerian did not disappoint and it is definitely worth watching.
