Specific Islander and their Sweaty Armpit Horror
In need of a break? Don’t fret! The groovy tracks (an adventurous and exceptional harmony of Bossa Nova and shoegaze) from band, Specific Islander, will definitely take you on a vacation, even if it is just for a while. The quartet is made up of youths of diverse backgrounds: guitarist Fai, bassist Nick, drummer Surin, and lead vocals Joanne, who also plays the guitar and keyboard. Despite their name, Specific Islander's music is all but 'specific'. The band performs pop rock numbers with a tropical vibe, combining strong beats from the boss nova genre with a psychedelic shoegaze touch. With the addition of funky synthesizers and slide guitars, the band’s bold experimentation definitely knows no bounds. Events that Specific Islander has played at include and are not limited to *SCAPE CONFESSIONS, Kaleidoscope Collective, Singapore Night Festival 2016 and even FRED PERRY SUBCULTURELIVE (organised by the renowned brand). We look forward to the new innovative blends the band might show us in the future.
